Agreement for the Management and Operation of the Hazardous Goods Yard in Aqaba

Under the patronage of His Excellency Chief Commissioner of ASEZA, Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez, Aqaba Development Corporation and Aqaba Container Terminal signed an agreement to manage and operate the operations of the hazardous materials yard in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of Aqaba Development
Corporation, H.E. Hussein Al-Safadi, and the CEO of Aqaba Container Terminal,
Mr. Harald Nijhof, at the premises of Aqaba Development Corporation,
representing a significant and strategic step in enhancing safety and
operational efficiency within the dangerous goods yard.
H.E. Al-Fayez commended the agreement, highlighting it as one of
the pivotal strategic initiatives undertaken by the high-caliber Container Terminal. This agreement facilitates the enhancement of the port system's
capabilities in managing hazardous materials. He emphasized that the steadfast
commitment of partners within the port system and service providers positively
influences the overall performance in handling hazardous materials. This
ensures the safety and integrity of the port system, boosts its competitive
edge to align with global advancements, and streamlines access to the essential
pillars supporting the maritime economy, encompassing the Container Port in
Aqaba and other affiliated ports.
The strategic agreement specifies that the Aqaba Container
Terminal will manage the first specialized yard for hazardous goods in Aqaba on
behalf of the Aqaba Development Corporation and in accordance with the
directives issued by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority.

The objective is to implement the highest international standards
in handling and temporary storage of containers classified as hazardous
according to global criteria.
The yard is equipped with advanced features, including
self-extinguishing equipment and modern security and safety measures to address
potential risks such as liquid leakage, ignition, or explosion incidents.
ADC CEO, H.E. Hussein Al Safadi commented, "As we embark on this partnership with Aqaba Container
