The Royal Vision for Aqaba

The Royal Vision for Aqaba

Launched in 2001, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) concept is designed and developed to embody and emphasize His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision for Aqaba. A modest port town back then, Aqaba’s potential was massive. The Royal Vision carries a commitment to transforming Aqaba into a world-class business hub and leisure destination, while putting the welfare of the community and preserving the city’s environmental and cultural heritage at heart. As Aqaba’s transformation plans were set in motion, over the course of the past 20 years enormous millstones were achieved mobilizing the Zone’s government institutions, community as well as the private sector.

The past years have been exceptionally challenging for Jordan. Despite the global financial crisis, increasing global energy prices as well as the regional turmoil and the refugee crisis, Jordan remained committed to reform, moderation and building for the future of Jordan the region. Capitalizing on the Kingdome’s renowned powerhouse of talented, its central geo-strategic position, and trade relationships and numerous FTAs it enjoys, Jordan proudly promotes its self as the gateway to the Levant region. Key to this is the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.

“Our economic strategy prioritizes service sectors that benefit directly from Jordan’s high-value human capital. Now these sectors are ripe for growth, provide the better-paying jobs that can meet the pressing needs of Jordanians, and take advantage of our many trade agreements, which give Jordan-based businesses access to a billion customers around the world.”  Remarks by His Majesty King Abdullah II, the London Initiative Conference, UK-London, 28 February 2019.
