Tourism and industrial development

Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) signed a partnership agreement with Escola Europea for Youth Employment in Ports of the Mediterranean (YEP MED). ADC is presenting the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a partner with 6 countries in this project. which is a part of the EU programs.

The program aspires to develop customized and flexible approaches to engage hard-to reach and more vulnerable sections of the population at risk of poverty. This includes the unemployed or underemployed youth or NEETS (young people Not in Employment, Education and Training) as well as women.

YEP MED Project promotes integration between the education sector, technical vocational and educational training (TVET) and career guidance. This should lead to the development of combined approaches that include counselling, mentoring, specialized employment advisory support, entrepreneurship promotion, tailor-made training and job placements.

The project aims to:

  • Increase the employability of women and youth and contribute towards women and youth having a positive outcome such as gaining a qualification and entering the labor market,
  • Improve and enhance employment services for women and children through the introduction of innovative tools, targeted training, coaching and mentoring, as well as the involvement of public institutions, introduce initiatives and formal agreements between TVET and the private sector that align skills and training opportunities with labour market requirements and sector policies and improve school-to work transitions,
  • Increase the number of social inclusion actions, networks and participants related to or created by women and youth.

Project benefits for Aqaba:

  • Building the capacity for Aqaba ports and logistics operators.
  • Bringing the desired empowerment for Jordanian youth in Aqaba through conducting dual training and vocational programs which will facilitate their engagement in the labor force.
